My Speaking Schedule for 2019-2020

Now that I’ve met all of my fall classes at least once, I can start to think ahead to my chances to teach and speak off campus. Here’s what currently on my speaking schedule for 2019-2020:

October 2, 2019

I’ll be flying out to San Diego to give a talk on the purpose of general education in Christian liberal arts colleges to faculty, students, and others at Point Loma Nazarene University.

As far as I know, I won’t be speaking in Point Loma Nazarene’s Greek amphitheater – David Ball/Wikimedia

October 27, 2019

It’s been a while since I’ve preached, so I’m especially excited to return to the pulpit of First Covenant Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, where I expect to preach on the theme of Christian freedom in Galatians 5. (Given the proximity to October 31st, I’m sure I’ll find a way to sneak in some Martin Luther…)

November 3, 2019

Then the following Sunday, I’ll be up at Incarnation Lutheran Church in Shoreview, Minnesota to consider the contentious history of the word “evangelical” with the adult ed Kairos class.

November 8, 2019

I’m sure we’ll talk about Pietism in passing during that class, but if you really want to hear me delve deeply into my own religious tradition, come to Chapel (10:20am) at Bethel University the following Friday.

April 5, 2020

Then I’ll come back to the themes of my most recent book on Palm Sunday and explain what Pietism could mean for Lutherans like those at the church we’re now attending.

In part because I’m in between books, 2019-20 is not quite as busy as recent years, with the winter and spring still relatively open. (I have a feeling that 2021 and 2022 are going to be all Lindbergh, all the time!) So if you’re interested in having me speak to your church, college, library, or other group, just get in touch by email.
