If I don’t write a whole lot around here for the next four weeks, it’s partly because I’m busy editing Come Back to Jesus: A Lenten Devotional from the Readers and Authors of The Pietist Option. Submissions have started to come in from the 38 readers who signed up to join Mark and me in writing daily devotions that revisit the themes of our book via Lenten disciplines of study and prayer. If all goes according to schedule, we’ll have the full devotional ready to share a couple weeks before Lent begins (February 14th).
To whet your appetite, here are a couple of samples: one of the two I’ve written; and one from Stephen Hoffman, a pastor in South Dakota.
Come Back to Jesus will be published as a free booklet and made available as a PDF, either for use on an e-reader or to be printed out. You don’t need to have read The Pietist Option first, though I think you’ll find that the book and devotional supplement each other quite nicely.
We’ll publish the devotionals with this Creative Commons license, so feel free to share Come Back to Jesus as widely as you like. You can even adapt it for small group or congregational use, if you’re looking for a common devotional to read and pray through during Lent.
We’ll post the PDF here and on my Facebook page when it’s ready, but if you’d like us to email you a copy directly, just complete this brief survey to get on our mailing list:
And if you’d like to help spread the word, just share this post by email or via social media.
Thanks!
