Where You Can Hear Us Speak on The Pietist Option

Three weeks and counting until The Pietist Option hits bookshelves!

I’m marking the occasion in SeaTac International Airport, waiting for my flight home after my first visit to the Pacific Northwest. Hard to imagine a better introduction to a region than one that offers these kinds of views:

I was on Whidbey Island to give two talks to the faculty of Seattle Pacific University, who have the good fortune to spend their annual retreat at Camp Casey. Thanks to Daniel Castelo, Margaret Brown, and SPU provost Jeff Van Duzer for the terrific opportunity to speak into SPU’s ongoing conversation about its mission and identity.

I also reflected briefly on this blog and my other efforts to reach a Christian public through the media of a digital age, but my primary emphasis was to revisit our Pietist Vision of Christian Higher Education book by way of some of the ideas in The Pietist Option.

Gehrz & Pattie, The Pietist OptionAs such, it served as a kind of preview for a variety of Pietist Option speaking gigs coming up in late 2017 and early 2018. All, so far, are taking place in and around the Twin Cities. (Though I’m certainly open to doing a bit more travel. Email if you’re interested in having me speak to your church, college, or other group.)

• Most importantly, let me invite any Pietist Schoolman readers to join us on Tuesday night, October 10th, when Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, MN will host our official book launch party! Mark and I will sign copies of the book and read excerpts from The Pietist Option, among other activities. You can RSVP via our Facebook event page, or just show up at 7pm.

• On Sunday, December 10th, Mark will be guest-preaching at Excelsior (MN) Covenant Church, and he and I will be leading an adult Sunday School class on The Pietist Option.

• Then I’ll be teaching and preaching at Rice Creek Covenant Church in Lino Lakes, MN on Sunday, January 28th. (I’m also in conversations with one more church in Minneapolis about doing a multi-day speaking event this winter; I’ll update you with those details as they firm up.)

I should also mention that Pietism will surely come up in one of the closing sessions of my six-week adult Sunday School class on the Reformations, starting Sunday, September 24th at 10am at Calvary Church in Roseville, MN.
