It looks like I was right to suspect that it was time for this blog to undergo a makeover, as only 13% of you wanted me to keep the WordPress theme I’ve been using for four years (The Morning After).
The people’s choice for our new theme, with 47% of the votes cast, is Gateway:
Thanks to all who took the time to vote, and to my former student Kyle Peterson for first nominating Gateway. It has a lot going for it: The title resonates with the notion of this blog as “Exploring” themes of interest to my readers and me; it’s considerably less cluttered than The Morning After and integrates images beautifully.
I need to think about it a bit more, to be honest. Gateway is meant more for organizations and photographers than wordy bloggers like me, and it’s designed to incorporate video to a much greater extent than I’m ever likely to use.
So I’m going to play around with it on a test site this week, then make a decision in August.
In the meantime, I’d appreciate help on one more problem: If I do move to Gateway (or Baskerville, the runner-up — 24% — that I actually prefer in some ways), I’d consider a different image on the blog header than the current selection, which is cropped from Caravaggio’s Supper at Emmaus. If you think I should keep Caravaggio or if you have any suggestions for a replacement — be it a specific image, or at least a type of image or a theme/topic to express visually — please say so in the comments section.
