Your Turn

In part because I’ve got a bunch of grading to do (likely to inspire a bitter, self-loathing post early next week…) and in larger part because late last week I wrote my 300th post in just over eight months and suddenly felt massively tired, I’m not going to post anything today other than this:

I’d like to open up this space to some guest posts.

Last month I ran into a reader whom I actually know in real, non-blogging life. He had posted a comment a while back and said he had much more to say, but that he tries to limit himself to Twitter-like word counts when commenting on blogs.

And it occurred to me that I would love to have him write something longer than 140 characters in the comment section. (You know who you are.) More: that lots of you are probably gifted writers who don’t necessarily have the time, inclination, or self-delusional vanity to blog daily but who might appreciate an outlet. And if you’re already reading the blog, you must share an interest in the kinds of topics I discuss.

So if you’d like to write a reflection, or review a book or film, or maybe be interviewed… I’d be interested in hearing proposals for posts on the following:

  • Christianity: especially the history of Pietism, its relationship with other Christian traditions, and its relevance for churches/denominations or colleges/universities; then, even more narrowly…
  • The Evangelical Covenant Church: a while back I said I should write a series of posts trying to explain this lovely little denomination to the rest of the world — anyone else in the Covenant family want to get that ball rolling?
  • History: what’s the best history book you’ve read recently, or historical film/play you’ve seen, or museum you’ve visited? I write most often about European history (particularly Britain, France, and Germany), the world wars, and diplomacy, but would welcome a wider variety of topics.
  • Education: I’d love advice on how to talk to high school students and their parents about why it’s worth their while to invest $30,000 a year into getting a History major…

If something comes to mind, please e-mail me your proposal: cgehrz(at)bethel.edu. I’d love to add a few more voices to the conversation!
