Let’s dip into the imaginary mailbag, shall we?
Dear Chris,
It seems like you’ve got endless amounts of free time to fill. Have you ever considered engaging in some actual scholarship? Or, writing for another blog?
Cordially,
All those who invested time and money in your decades of education
Excellent questions. I’ll defer the first until it’s time to write my tenure renewal essays, but it’s funny the second should come up, because yesterday marked the world premiere of yet another venue for my ramblings!
Yes, it’s AC 2nd: The Bethel University History Department Blog! Which, you may have noticed, is now on my Recommended Links list and has joined the collection of news feeds on this blog’s home page.
I suspect AC 2nd will most interest those readers of The Pietist Schoolman who happen to be current or former Bethel students or employees. We’ll share announcements about jobs, internships, and events, interviews with alumni who have gone on to bigger and better things in various (mostly non-history-related) fields, student and faculty news, reflections from students in courses like our Senior Seminar, and much more pertinent to our mission at Bethel.
However, history buffs of all backgrounds who find their way to The Pietist Schoolman might also check out AC 2nd for the occasional book, movie, and museum reviews we expect to post, and I’ll be contributing a links post every Saturday sharing some of the best in history-related blogging from the previous week (like my “That Was The Week That Was” series here, but much less eclectic and wordy).
Eventually I do expect to see posts from others in the department (faculty and students alike, I hope), but since I’ll do the lion’s share as we get underway, you may notice a slight dip in posting frequency back here where the magic began. However, I’ll likely cross-post some of what I write for AC 2nd here, and vice-versa. Enjoy!
